Beer Belly
I'm always excited when I buy tickets to see a show at The Wiltern because I know it's the perfect excuse (not that you actually need an excuse, mind you!) to enjoy a pre-gig dinner at Beer Belly. Located just over a block north of the venue on Western in the heart of Koreatown, this tiny restaurant prides itself on serving "craft beer, and crafty food" - and it definitely delivers on both counts. Both their Bacon Fat and Duck Fat Fries are outrageously delicious (if you're brave enough to order both at once, it's worth the comparison, though you'll be well on your way to acquiring a belly of your own!). Vegetable-based dishes like the Brussels Sprouts with apples, onions and pancetta and the Broccoli Rabe and Burrata offer a lovely, slightly lighter reprieve before diving into other delectably deep-fried dishes like the buttermilk battered Fried Duck Livers, accompanied by spicy "Frankenstein" ketchup. I've never managed to make it to any of their deep fried desserts (Pop Tart, Oreo, Oatmeal Cream Pie, Twinkie), but I've certainly consumed my fair share of refreshing local craft beers to wash it all down.
