Though the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Ivar Ave. has been somewhat of a revolving door of restaurants these past few years, I'm hoping Stella Barra Pizzeria will continue to break that pattern. The Hollywood sister restaurant to its Santa Monica and Chicago counterparts, Stella Barra features artisanal pizzas crafted by chef and Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises partner Jeff Mahin. Having cut his teeth at such heralded restaurants as NYC's Nobu, San Francisco's Millennium, and Berkshire, England's The Fat Duck, as well as assisting in the opening of chef Laurent Gras' three-Michelin-star-rated Chicago seafood restaurant L20, Mahin launched his first Stella Barra venture in Santa Monica in 2011 (and has since also opened Santa Monica's M Street Kitchen and Chicago's Do-Rite Donuts). With an emphasis on seasonal, fresh farmer's market ingredients paired with the perfect pizza dough - Mahin tried 30 recipes before deciding upon the one utilized at Stella Barra! - the chef creates his signature pizzas, along with delicious accompanying salads, sandwiches, and a daily Chef's Plate menu, with beautiful attention and delicious finesse. Located within the same block as the ArcLight Cinemas, Stella Barra is situated as the perfect pre or post movie food stop - and their bakery selection at the front of the restaurant might just make for sweet nibbles as your movie treat, too!
