Dark Rye Open-Faced Sandwiches

When entertaining, I’m a fan of making beautifully presented dishes without even having to dash out to the grocery store. In this case, I opted for open-faced sandwiches on dark rye bread, adorned with thematic, seasonal riffs on orange, black and white ingredients from the refrigerator:

Ricotta and orange marmalade

Orange heirloom tomato slices with sweet butter and chives

Ricotta and pumpkin butter

Cheddar cheese with red jalapeno peppers

Flakes of hot smoked salmon with crème fraîche and chives
