Jon & Vinny's
Ever fans of carnivorous chef duo Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, my family and I had been waiting for the perfect weekend excuse to indulge in our joint birthday celebrations at Jon & Vinny’s. The pizzeria, which sits nearly right across the street from their Fairfax staple Animal (where I could quite comfortably live, if given the opportunity), features a family-friendly shareable menu with a “California Italian” approach – focusing, as always, on local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. Start to finish, from the shaved zucchini and arugula salad, to kabocha squash agnolotti, to marinara braised meatballs, the chefs seamlessly blend traditional dishes with their signature modern ease and impeccable quality. The pizzas are, of course, a must – how I could I ever resist “Sonny’s Favorite,” piled high with grilled Niman Ranch slab bacon and grana padano? I’m eager now to partake of the restaurant’s breakfast menu, and will definitely be incorporating these pizzas into our monthly (if not weekly!) food rotation.
