Birch - Brunch
My boyfriend studied sound design in Nottingham, England, which left him with a love of Sunday Roasts that equals my own. So we were both delighted, of course, to hear that Chef Brendan Collins’ restaurant Birch on Cahuenga Corridor – known for its creative dishes the likes of rabbit baklava with dates, and monkfish tikka masala with quince chutney – hosts its own weekly Sunday Roast from noon to 4:00 PM. With its name a nod to the eponymous trees that surrounded his childhood home in Nottingham (of all places!), at Birch, Chef Collins has crafted a dinner menu that channels the beauty of Los Angeles, and a Roast menu that is wonderfully, unequivocally British. All the important staples of a Roast are featured – Yorkshire pudding, English peas, and family-style roasted beef, chicken, or pork loin – tailored with Collins’ Michelin-star restaurant experience, detail, and flavors (The Chef worked at La Gavroche and Quo Vadis in London and Josiah Citrin’s Melisse in Santa Monica, in addition to the laundry list of extremely highly regarded British and Californian restaurants in which he also honed his craft.) Having stumbled upon this Hollywood gem, I think my boyfriend and I will be foregoing our New Year’s resolutions in favor of letting our waistlines continue to expand with the help of beautiful meals at Birch.
