Sunny Spot
As with all of Roy Choi’s restaurants, Sunny Spot in Venice is a delight. With its lovely outdoor patio bathed in California sunshine, mix and match bottomless cocktails, and Pacific-meets-Caribbean cuisine, Sunny Spot lives up to the simple brightness of its name as an ideal brunch locale. I love sampling a large array of dishes to achieve the restaurant’s real range of Choi's flavors -- from the braised richness of the Ropa Vieja with pork and spicy gremolata; to the Muh-F’k’n Mofongo and Eggs served on mashed plantains; to the must-have Cuban Torta with (of course!) pork terrine, prosciutto, provolone, jalapeno, and mustard. I was pleased to find that Sunny Spot does indeed embody Southern Californian food with a West Indies-flair!
