I am a huge fan of local food halls, and was excited when I heard of Stir Market --founded by Mimi Mok and Jet Tila with executive chef Christopher Barnett --which opened last November on Beverly Blvd. Establishing itself as a California nod to popular European markets like Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid and even Harrods in London where, in Mok’s words, “dining and shopping blend effortlessly,” the gourmet market and its stellar kitchen are open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. It’s so much fun to browse the market’s gourmet selection of retail foods and pre-made meals, which are all wildly tempting to utilize on a busy night when I just don’t feel like cooking! For brunch on the market’s heated outdoor patio, I sampled the Moroccan baked eggs with garbanzo beans served in a skillet; their perfect California avocado toast with lemon rind and sea salt; a delectable brioche cinnamon bun; and an unbeatable cappuccino made with Intelligentsia coffee. I adore having a go-to gourmet shop like Stir Market in my neighborhood, and look forward to returning for lunch or dinner in the near future!
