Ledlow
I think it’s well established that I could clearly eat brunch -- the ultimate meal combining much-loved breakfast selections with the bonus of libations -- for every meal (and on National Donut Day, why not splurge and combine that most beloved mid-morning feast with an airy, house-made donut?). The way to my heart is through fried eggs and duck fat potatoes, and the menu at Chef Josef Centeno’s Ledlow (also of Downtown LA’s Bäco Mercat, Orsa & Winston, and Bar Amá) is a beautiful range of everything that makes brunch quite so perfect. Whether opting for more breakfast-oriented dishes like classic biscuits and gravy with Centeno’s addition of pickled kale; or a mac ‘n’ cheese croque with gruyere, pimento, Dijon, and an optional egg; or indulging in heartier main dishes like a fried chicken club sandwich with chicken crackling; or shrimp and grits with kielbasa and red eye gravy, Centeno offers his delectable culinary approach to American classics, imparting them with a modern, Angelino sensibility. I’m eager to head back to Ledlow soon for dinner, where both the Lemon-y Blistered Okra with kumquat, capers, and grated egg as well as the Roasted Sunchoke Remoulade have my name on them!
