Mohawk Bend
My boyfriend and I have recently been enjoying a love affair with Echo Park, and while admittedly a little late to the game, Mohawk Bend just became one of our very favorite foodie locales. The beautiful interior of the restaurant, a repurposed vaudevillian theater built in 1913 with a gloriously sunny brick wall indoor “atrium” (known as the Ramona Room), provides the perfect setting for enjoying its equal-parts vegan/vegetarian/non-vegan menu boasting dishes made with exclusively Californian ingredients. Owner Tony Yanow, also owner of California craft brewery Golden Road Brewing, envisioned creating a “beer and pizza place,” and Mohawk Bend’s 70+ taps, bonafide pizza ovens, and extremely varied brunch-through-dinner menus more than deliver when it comes to emphasizing “fresh, locally-sourced fare and drink,” as the restaurant proclaims on its website. From its eponymous Mohawk Burger with arugula, parmesan, crispy bacon, red onion, roasted peppers, and rosemary aioli; to perfectly executed eggs benedict; to its stellar beer menu (which allowed me to savor my beloved Lost Abbey 2014 limited release Agave Maria ale!), Mohawk Bend has achieved Yanow’s goal – and then some – and I can comfortably see becoming a familiar face around Sunset Blvd. and Mohawk Street!
