Knuckle & Claw
A perfect Lobster Roll is one of my favorite culinary vices - while the price point often leaves this oceanic sandwich feeling a wee bit decadent, the payoff of flavor and virtual table-to-beach transportation is worth every penny, and every bite. To that end, I was thrilled when I heard that Chloe Dahl and Nikki Booth's formerly Westside farmers market-only Knuckle & Claw rolls were ultimately finding a permanent home in Silver Lake, which sent me heading for a seafood bib and rushing to Sunset Blvd. to experience these foodie tributes to New England for myself. Serving only knuckle and claw meat (as the restaurant's name would suggest) without any celery, mayonnaise, or other fillers, Dahl and Booth's sandwiches are simple, clean, ideal incarnations of these delicious, traditional rolls. I had to try their grilled cheese and lobster "knuckle sandwich," and the beautiful crab meat sandwiches -- both blue and dungeness -- rival the lobster rolls themselves. The duo's secret spice mix lends a personal and scrumptious touch to their sandwiches, and their Martha's Vineyard meets Hawaiian background is evident in every carefully shelled bite.
