Night + Market Song
Having long been a fan of Chef Kris Yenbamroong’s West Hollywood Night + Market, I was thrilled when he opened Night + Market Song (“song” meaning “two” in Thai) in Silver Lake last year. This candy pink-colored sister restaurant – also on Sunset Blvd. – features Yenbamroong’s signature fresh and inventive take on Thai cuisine, topped off with a deeper, rich, late-night feel to his dishes. Though a large portion of the menu is the same at both locations (including my favorite “Startled Pig” grilled pork), Song excels when it comes to salty and spicy “chile water” dishes like Nam Prik Ong, with its homemade ground pork "ragout" cooked down with gapi, cherry tomatoes, and roasted chiles, served with a side of pork rinds. The menu’s dedicated sections for Hot Pot soups and Khao Soi curry noodle dishes are the perfect counterparts for a 22 oz. Singha beer or two, and leave me craving Yenbamroong’s dishes after a long week (or a long night!), as well as whatever cold leftovers I may find myself with the following morning!
