Welcome to my scrumptious, stylish, spooky, happy place!

The Golden State Café

The Golden State Café

I love a restaurant with a centralized focus and a simple menu, and The Golden State Café on Fairfax is exactly that kind of local joint. Emphasizing a curated menu of sustainably sourced, California-based food selected by Chef Samir Mohajer – formerly of Rustic Canyon – the restaurant’s menu features a modest array of sandwiches (from a Harris Ranch beef burger to a BLTA with California applewood smoked bacon), Let’s be Frank® hot dogs, Scoops® gelato, and beer and wine the likes of The Bruery, Craftsman, Golden Road, and Topanga Vineyards. As the café’s website proclaims, “California is an easy place to love. It's where we grew up. It's what we know. And it tastes very good,” and the restaurant serves as a veritable love song to the Golden State itself.  I’m typically too full post-burger to enjoy the restaurant’s famed beer float with North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, but it’s certainly on my short-list of items to try!
