Choco Chicken
Only could Umami Burger-genius Adam Fleischman (in conjunction with cook and entertainment producer Keith Previte and TV and film producer Sean Robins) conceive of the beauty that is Choco Chicken - the Downtown LA fried chicken joint with a simple menu that serves tender, organic Jidori chicken fried to perfection in a savory, chocolate-infused batter. The chocolate aspect is less "chocolatey" than, say, a mole sauce, and the 62% bittersweet chocolate from Beverly Hills-based Coco Suisse the restaurant utilizes lends a delicious counterpart to the salty, rich, dare I say "umami" nature of the fried chicken. Pick your meat -- light, dark, or a combo -- and go to town on Duck Fat Fries and Biscuits (both the Butter and Caramelized Bacon biscuits are insanely delicious...don't be ashamed of being a glutton here!). The crisp Cole Slaw and lovely array of Crudité provide a nice balance to the battered, fried, dough-based menu, though I still left the restaurant feeling like I had to be rolled out (in the best possible way, mind you)!
