Terrine (dinner)
Always a fan of Kris Morningstar’s beautiful French restaurant Terrine (even if they have scaled back their formerly bountiful use of re-legalized foie gras in order to tread lightly amongst conscientious LA diners), sitting on its elegant patio at dusk with a Strawberry Puff cocktail in my hand and a cool autumnal breeze easing through the tables is absolutely my idea of heaven. The Chef’s French onion soup knocks any other rendition I’ve ever sampled out of the victor’s seat, and every morsel of charcuterie – from truffled chicken liver mousse to the foie gras terrine with sweet and sour prunes – is stellar beyond compare. Classics like moules-frites and modern dishes such as crispy pork belly with pears, faro, and apricot mostarda are delicious alike, and finishing off such a perfect meal with a sweet morsel (like the restaurant’s “birthday cake,” with chocolate ganache, sea salt, caramel, and toffee) make me long for the days I lived in West Hollywood so I could make this wonderful brasserie my home away from home.
