Melody's Mexican Kitchen
Cooked from-the-heart Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines - having grown up in the Valley, the restaurants I find myself returning to have been culinary local landmarks for decades, like the trio owned and run by Alejandro and Norma Morales. Their triumvirate of easy and delicious restaurants -- Las Fuentes (1982), Melody's Mexican Kitchen (1993), and Sol y Luna (2004) -- is the food I crave when I visit my parents, and Melody’s happens to be the most convenient to swing by on a whim from their house. Its whimsically bright walls covered in Mexican folk art provide the perfect locale for this no-fuss dining room – I love ordering at the counter, snagging an often hard-to-get table, and savoring a cold Negra Modelo while awaiting the speedy arrival of my Salpicon Tostada Salad and the restaurant’s utterly perfect taquitos!
