The Sycamore Kitchen
I adore Karen and Quinn Hatfield’s dual culinary mastery (I was deeply saddened when their Michelin-starred Hatfield’s shuttered late last year!), and their La Brea Ave. breakfast and lunch eatery, The Sycamore Kitchen, is one of my favorite brunch spots in Hollywood. Boasting a gloriously sun-drenched, delightfully urban patio upon which I love savoring the restaurant’s delicious farm to table creations, with a Stumptown Coffee Roasters latte in hand, it’s easy for me to work my way through The Sycamore Kitchen’s menu. Pork belly hash, seasonal quiches, and the healthful and filling Jerusalem Bowl (with warm wheat berries, lentils and barley, Zahtar chicken, roasted green chilies, two fried eggs) leave me sated when it comes to entrees, but it’s impossible to resist Karen Hatfield’s beautifully baked goods. The ever-popular Salted Caramel Pecan Babka Roll epitomizes everything wonderful about breakfast pastries, as does the perfectly bite-sized brown butter and date mini Bundt cake. The fresh salads and artisanal sandwiches served on Karen’s house-baked bread at lunchtime make The Sycamore Kitchen an equally easy and enjoyable mid-afternoon stop for me as well – if I lived any closer, I think the Hatfields would nearly have to kick me out around 5:00 PM closing every day.
