The Lost Knight
As previously admitted in my blog (here, here, here, here, here, and here!), I am a self-confessed Anglophile who left her heart in London while studying abroad during college -- and I still to this day enjoy all things truly British. As such, I was delighted to sample the offerings at The Lost Knight -- the newly opened British pub in Echo Park that perfectly fills the hole left by the now-defunct Mexican restaurant, Barragan’s. More than anything, I was pleased to find that the Knight embodies the sensibility of a real, genuinely British pub -- as opposed to the Americanized version of what an English pub should be. Run by British owners with gin-based cocktails, “darts & curry” Wednesdays, sausage rolls, Stargazy fish pie, and a fantastic full English breakfast, the restaurant offers the ideal environment for settling in to a red leather booth and slowly making your way through the bar’s draught beer list, from ale, to lager, to porter. Dishes are delicious, classically British, and elegantly plated – the Curried Rice and Cod was especially beautiful topped with a runny quartered 8-minute egg, and the red “beet” Wellington served on bruléed goat cheese is a clever spin on a tried and true English staple. With its welcoming antique-clad interior and a rooftop patio that I’ve pledged to return to, The Lost Knight makes me wish I lived in Echo Park so I could call this pub my local!
