Maradentro
I'm always on the hunt for good Mexican food, and though I haven't yet had the pleasure of dining at all of their restaurants, I've come to very much enjoy the offerings of the Cocinas y Calveras restaurant group. Created by restauranteur Jesse Gomez and executive chef Jose Acevedo, I've visited all three locations of their restaurant Mercado (and will certainly construct a post on it at some point!), and I truly adore the fare at their seafood-focused Maradentro (and was sad to hear of the closing of one of its two locations!). But the surviving location -- conveniently right down the street from my office -- features enough beautiful oysters, ceviche, shrimp toast, and fish tacos to satiate my never-ending love of seafood. Additionally, though, their land-based dishes are also extraordinary -- "Chef Jose's Carnitas" are melt-in-your-mouth decadent; and the humble guacamole -- which can be ordered with an addition of lobster and bacon -- is transformed into one of the greatest dips I've ever enjoyed. With a margarita (or two), I find it impossible not to enjoy myself with a lunch at Maradentro.
