Welcome to my scrumptious, stylish, spooky, happy place!

Sally Cake Pops

Sally Cake Pops

I’m always so excited to kick off my Decembers filled with Nightmare Before Christmas-themed treats, and these cake pops may be my very favorite creations yet. Sally the Ragdoll is such a loyal, strong heroine, and I’ve essentially wanted to be here since first seeing the movie at eight-years-old. Having noticed tons of Jack Skellington cake pops online over the years, I decided bringing Sally to life would be an especially fun challenge. My very favorite Williamsburg Cake was paired with cream cheese frosting to form the cake pops themselves, and I thought Twizzler Pull ‘n’ Peel candies would make the ideal ragdoll hair when pulled apart into individual strands! I used melting chocolate, fondant, and edible pens to create her face, and when I was done, they were so lovely I hardly wanted to eat them – but, of course, I did (and they were as delicious as they were sweetly spooky).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan, two 9-inch round cake pans, or three 8-inch round cake pans.

In a large bowl, combine cake flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Mix in butter, shortening, buttermilk, eggs, raisins, nuts, orange zest and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer for 3 minutes on high speed. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Bake 9x13 inch pan 45 to 50 minutes, or layers 30 to 35 minutes.

Allow to cool, then crumble cake in a large mixing bowl. Incorporate frosting as needed, forming the cake crumbles into balls. Insert cake pop stick, then refrigerate for two hours.

Melt melting chocolate (by microwave or in a double boiler), then quickly dip each cake pop in chocolate and allow to cleanly set. Decorate as desired!
