Shaky Alibi
I love a good Belgian waffle. And I'm not talking about a slightly-puffier-than-an-Eggo waffle, which is how so many restaurants pitch their breakfast fare - I mean an authentic Liege waffle, with yeast in the batter rather than baking soda, perfectly crisp edges from a waffle iron, coated in Belgian pearl sugar to give it that slightly crystallized crunch, and then finished with powdered sugar. Shaky Alibi on Beverly Blvd. serves exactly this kind of perfect Belgian Waffle, inspired by the owner's German-born great-grandmother, along with a delicious House Blend Coffee, inspired by the owner's Italian grandmother. The family-centric focus of this local Wafflerie and Coffee Bar gives it a wonderfully homey nature, and the works of local artists and photographers that adorn the restaurant's walls illustrate its focus on community and the camaraderie that comes naturally when sharing a perfect cup of coffee with friends.
