Split Pea Soup (...hold the Frog's Breath and Deadly Nightshade)

On these rare, chilly and rainy Los Angeles evenings, I love making homemade split pea soup. Inspired most recently to make this dish by the bowl of Worm's Wort soup and slotted spoon that allow Sally to escape the clutches of mad scientist Dr. Finkelstein in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (minus, of course, the Deadly Nightshade!), my go-to recipe is perfect on a December night like this, topped with crispy bacon and fresh marjoram leaves!
