Grand Central Market
A Downtown LA foodie landmark since 1917, South Broadway's Grand Central Market is the embodiment of a very simple mission statement: "From food, community." Packed with seemingly endless stalls that celebrate the wide range of Southern Californian foods -- from local grocers and butchers, to homemade papusas, to freshly shucked oysters, to traditional deli fare -- strolling amongst the market's rows allows for a fascinating snapshot view of varied Los Angeles cuisine. LA's food truck scene is even represented, as the sandwich slinging Eggslut now has its own permanent stall, complete with a nearly endless line of patrons. I always find the earlier you arrive, the better - the market opens daily at 8:00 AM (though some stalls and restaurants open later), and it's fun to peruse and graze from stall to stall without the crowds!
