Halloween Tri-Colored Cookies
On fall days when I'm craving a good cookie but the crisp, autumnal weather that facilitates the ease of rolling out cookies hasn't quite yet set in, I find these tri-colored cookies to be a delicious solution to satisfy that craving. My starting point is a BHG recipe for a spiral sugar cookie -- I follow the basic instructions, but then separate the dough into thirds instead of halves and use the 3 different Halloween-colored dyes (and omit the peppermint extract). Roll each of the colored doughs into ropes of equal length, then stack one on top of the other two and press together into one large log, before then twisting and turning the log to produce this whimsical colored cookie. It's best to wrap in plastic and refrigerate the tri-colored, twisted dough log at this point to chill before slicing it into individual cookies to bake. With a nice cool glass of milk, you can almost pretend it feels like fall!
