Rustic Canyon Wine Bar & Seasonal Kitchen
As evidenced by my previous posts about Huckleberry, Milo & Olive, and Sweet Rose Creamery, I adore Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan’s Rustic Canyon Family of Restaurants; and the group’s first restaurant and namesake – Rustic Canyon – is no exception. Encouraging diners to “come with an open mind and an empty stomach,” the restaurant’s menu is built to share – my favorite! – and the beautiful dishes crafted by Executive Chef Jeremy Fox with seasonal ingredients that are, as always, sustainably raised, locally sourced, and farmers market-based. The restaurant itself was created as a permanent extension of dinners Loeb hosted at his family’s canyon home in Santa Monica, and continues to encourage that same sense of camaraderie and reveling in good food and wine. Whether it’s squid ceviche or beef tartare; smoked black cod tartine or smoked trout tonnato; Dungeness crab curry or roasted bone marrow – Fox’s dishes are plated to perfection and are delicious beyond words. Staples like charcuterie and cheese boards are perennial favorites, and his dish with beets and seasonal berries (strawberries or blackberries!), avocado, red quinoa, and pistachio “soil” remains one of my very favorite plates – both in presentation and in flavor!
