Laurel Tavern
When I lived in Studio City, Laurel Tavern was a regular haunt of mine. An American-style gastro pub with a casually industrial, Edison light bulb and exposed brick ambiance, the restaurant’s large windows open right on to Ventura Blvd. and impart Laurel Tavern with an easy, airy nature. The sixteen all-American microbrews on tap – the likes of Ommegang’s Rara Vos and North Coast’s Old Rasputin Stout – give this tavern the makings of a perfect local pub, and its menu helps solidify that notion. Alongside standard pub fare like delicious burgers and chicken wings (Buffalo Style or Cantonese), Laurel Tavern also offers more complicated culinary dishes, like their famed Pork Belly Skewers with maple glaze, lime, and cilantro; a Roasted Beet and Burrata salad with fig balsamic glaze, arugula, and hazelnut oil; and duck fat Steak Fries with sea salt and hickory dipping sauce. Avocado emulsions, lemon-herb aioli, and chimichurri all make their mark on this menu as well, lending just the right American spin to the British institution of pub food.
