The Hungry Cat
In my opinion, it’s never too early in the morning for oysters – and The Hungry Cat’s Hollywood location is one of my favorite eateries at which I can indulge in this delectably briny bivalve for brunch. Chef and owner David Lentz (who opened the restaurant in 2005 with his wife, Chef Suzanne Goin – another of my chef heroes!) curates a seasonal seafood menu that focuses on “bi-coastal American classics,” resulting in smoked trout Johnny Cakes and Maine lobster rolls living amongst Hamachi with beets, avocado, and blood orange; as well as braised mussels with curry, apple, brussels sprouts, and almonds. As far as oysters go – whether ordering them raw by the dozen, in shooter form (I could knock back that one with Arette Reposado Tequila, lime, tabasco, salt all day!), or grilled with garlic butter – I’m always elated by the quality and beauty of both Chef Lentz’s fish and shellfish, and I’m eager to one day venture to the restaurant’s Santa Monica and Santa Barbara locations as well!
