Japanophile chef David Myers and Top Chef alumni (and Japan-native herself) Kuniko Yagi pair beautifully in both their culinary design and aesthetics, as evidenced by their delicious fare at Hinoki & the Bird.  Nestled at the base of the luxury condo tower The Century in Century City, the restaurant serves simple, impeccably cooked Japanese-inspired cuisine in a secret garden-meets rustic nightclub setting.  The coiffed and suspender-clad bar tenders mix delicious cocktails - my personal favorite is the Seasonal Fix - your choice of gin, rum, vodka, or tequila (tequila for me) paired with lemon and muddled seasonal fruit.  Subtle Asian twists on classic dishes are what make Hinoki's food so special - ajwain-tomato jam accompanies the salt & pepper fried calamari; the lobster roll's meat is dressed with green curry and thai basil.  Be sure to get the restaurant's namesake Hinoki (Japanese cypress) scented black cod, which is incredibly flavorful and dramatically plated with illuminated embers on the accompanying wood.
