Deadly Nightshade Cocktail

Deadly Nightshade Cocktail

I’ll think of any excuse to whip up an absinthe cocktail, and Sally’s use of the herbaceous (extremely poisonous!) plant Deadly Nightshade to drug Dr. Finklestein in The Nightmare Before Christmas makes me strangely crave an Absinthe Suissesse. With its combination of almond-flavored orgeat syrup, egg whites, heavy cream, and orange flower water paired with the pronounced anise flavor of absinthe, I imagine Sally wouldn’t need any “suspicious”-smelling Frog’s Breath to mask the scent of Deadly Nightshade in this cocktail!

Deadly Nightshade Absinthe Suissesse

3 tablespoons (1½ ounces) absinthe
1 tablespoon (½ ounce) orgeat syrup*
1 egg white** or 2 tablespoons pasteurized liquid egg whites (optional)
1 dash orange flower water (optional)
¼ cup (2 ounces) heavy cream or half-and-half
½ cup crushed ice

Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker and strain when serving.
